Fastned continues expansion, opens first fast charging stations in France

  • Today Fastned opens its first four French stations on key APRR and AREA motorways, and is set to open another five stations in the coming weeks.
  • The nine stations are located along highways between Paris-Dijon and Dijon-Lyon, and towards Switzerland.
  • Each fast charging station can charge hundreds of electric vehicles per day, providing up to 300km of range in just 15 minutes.
  • Stations contribute to the goal set by the French Ministry for Energy Transition to deploy fast charging stations on all private French highways by the end of 2022.
Summary

Amsterdam, 30 November 2021. Fastned, the European fast charging company, opens its first four fast charging stations in France, giving EV drivers high quality charging options on key motorways between Paris and Lyon. The stations are the result of Fastned winning a tender organised by the French motorway and toll group APRR/AREA. With a sixth country added to its network, Fastned is connecting Europe through its network of high-powered charging stations.

Fastned specialises in developing and operating fast charging stations on high traffic locations along motorways and in cities, where drivers can charge their electric vehicle with up to 300 km of range in 15 minutes before continuing their journey. The stations are designed with the future in mind and are capable of charging hundreds of cars per day with 100% renewable electricity. The stations offer a new level of comfort for French EV drivers with a canopy protecting users from the rain as well as serving as a beacon to show where the station is from afar. Since it was founded in 2012, Fastned has built 177 fast charging stations across the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, Belgium, Switzerland and now France. Fastned is listed on Euronext Amsterdam.

Electric vehicle drivers can find the first four Fastned fast charging stations in France at the following service areas: Gevrey-Chambertin Ouest (A31, Dijon), Écot (A36, Montbéliard), Pont Chêne d'Argent (A39, Dole) and Pont Val de Saône (A39, Dole). The other five stations will be opened in the coming weeks along the Autoroute du Soleil (A6), on the route to Switzerland and around Dijon. Each station starts with 4 charging positions, delivering up to 300kW per charge point, and will be expanded to up to 12 charging positions as demand increases.

The charging stations support APRR's goal to realise high-quality charging infrastructure along key motorways in France and are crucial to supply electricity to the rapidly growing number of electric vehicles in the country. They also contribute to the goal set by the French Ministry for Energy Transition to deploy electric charging stations across the country by 2022. The share of battery electric vehicles continues to grow in France and now represents around 10% of new car sales, up from 1.2% in 2017.

Michiel Langezaal, CEO Fastned: “Making available large locations via long term leases is crucial for the construction of high-quality charging infrastructure. Fastned is proud to have won this tender from APRR, having proven that it has a strong solution for fast charging infrastructure. I am very happy that APRR took a lead in enabling parties like Fastned to build charging infrastructure in France by reaching out to the market. With the opening of these stations, we add a sixth country to our network, which is a great achievement by our French team, and great news for electric drivers.”
Pierre Courgeon, Fastned Country Manager France: “The realisation of charging infrastructure along highways is key factor in the transition to electric mobility in France and the ambition to reduce French CO2 emissions. This first project is just the beginning as Fastned aims to be a key player in France, with a large national network providing freedom to electric drivers with the level of quality of service they are looking for."
