Fastned to triple number of fast charging stations in Germany after winning prime lots in “Deutschlandnetz” tender

  • Fastned wins two prime lots consisting of 92 so-called “search areas”  in which to build fast charging stations, as part of the German government’s “Deutschlandnetz” fast charging network tender
  • Fastned to support roll-out of fast charging infrastructure in western and south-western Germany, in cooperation with municipalities, commercial and private landowners
  • The win will triple the number of Fastned stations in Germany over the next four years

Fastned, the European fast charging company, has won two prime lots consisting of 92 so-called “search areas” in western and south-western Germany as part of the nationwide tender known as “Deutschlandnetz”. In those search areas, Fastned is the appointed party to build fast charging stations in cooperation with municipalities, commercial and private landowners. Being one of the winners in this tender, led by the Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport, gives Fastned the opportunity to triple the number of stations across the country and make a big step towards its goal of 1,000 charging stations in Europe by 2030.

The German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport initiated the “Deutschlandnetz” tender to accelerate the transition to electric mobility across the country. The “Deutschlandnetz” tender is intended to ensure that the millions of electric drivers that will come to the roads will have easy access to fast charging stations.

Vote of confidence for Fastned's fast charging concept

In the selection criteria, the Ministry put a lot of emphasis on the stations being customer friendly to enable easy fast charging for everyone. Being one of the winners of these very competitive and sought-after lots confirms the high quality of our fast-charging concept and the expertise we have built up in Germany and other countries over the past 11 years.

I’m extremely proud that we were selected by the federal government as the partner of choice for the municipalities, and I’m very much looking forward to contributing to the further rollout of fast charging infrastructure in Germany.

Linda Boll, Country Manager of Fastned Germany:

The tender offered lots across six different regions, covering all of Germany. Fastned applied for four lots it considered to be the very best ones and won two, which was the maximum Fastned could win. Together, the two awarded lots consist of 92 search areas, for which Fastned will receive funding to build and operate fast charging stations. Fastned will now continue to identify and contract new locations at which to build a fast charging station with up to 16 fast charging points. For this, Fastned will collaborate with commercial and private landowners and local municipalities and is open to proposals of potentially attractive locations that can be sent to [email protected].

Accelerating the transition to electric mobility in Germany

We look forward to expanding our reliable, high-quality and accessible fast charging network well into the urban areas and districts of western and southwestern Germany.

Each new station will support our mission of accelerating the transition to electric mobility. A comprehensive network of fast-charging stations will make more and more drivers switch to sustainable electric driving, moving the energy transition forward.

We want to congratulate the Ministry on accelerating the rollout of a fast charging network across the country through this tender. This helps local authorities and municipalities speed up the process of contracting the best operators to build this much-needed fast charging infrastructure

Michiel Langezaal, CEO Fastned

The new stations in Germany will feature Fastned’s high-quality standards, with the EV driver’s convenience and well-being put at the core of its design. They will be equipped with high-performance fast chargers powered exclusively by renewable energy. Depending on their vehicle types, drivers can charge their cars with up to 300 km of range in only 15 minutes.

Fastned currently has 37 fast charging stations in Germany and will further expand its network in the country and in Europe in the upcoming years. In addition to the two lots won in western and south-western Germany, Fastned will continue to drive the expansion of fast charging infrastructure across the whole of Germany.
