Fastned wins at Council of State: shop and toilets allowed at fast charging stations

Dutch Council of State overturns Minister's policy

Fastned, which is building a European network of fast charging stations, has won the appeal that it filed at the Dutch Council of State. Fastned appealed the decision of the Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment in which Fastned was refused a permit for a shop and toilets at two of its charging stations. With this ruling, the policy of the Minister that such facilities are never permitted at charging stations along the motorway has been overturned.

The case concerned two charging stations at service areas ‘Velder ‘and ‘De Horn’ along motorways A2 and A7, but has consequences for all charging stations along Dutch motorways. The ruling is a big step towards full-service charging stations where electric drivers can also enjoy a cup of coffee and a sandwich while charging. Fastned hopes that as a result of this ruling the Minister will support the realisation of these important facilities for electric drivers. This is urgently needed given the rapidly growing number of electric cars and charging sessions along the motorway. The Dutch State has set the goal that all new cars should be emission-free from 2030 onwards. Full service fast charging stations contribute to this objective.Fastned founder

"This is very good news for electric drivers. They want to drink a cup of coffee and go to the toilet, just like people with a gasoline car."
