Fastned launches first ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging station in London

  • Fastned Ramac Way in the London Borough of Greenwich is Fastned’s 11th station in the UK and its first in London.
  • New station follows Fastned’s successful opening of Scotland’s biggest ultra-rapid charging station in Hamilton, Glasgow last month.
  • The new station, off the Woolwich Road in Greenwich, has six bays providing 300kW of renewable energy, providing electric vehicles with 186 miles (300 km) of range in 15 minutes.

Fastned, the European rapid charging company, has today opened its first ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging station in London.

Based in the London Borough of Greenwich and located just off the Woolwich Road (A206) near the Blackwall Tunnel, the station will cater for local vehicles as well as people travelling through the Blackwall Tunnel.

The station comprises six charging bays, each of which is supplied by 100% renewable energy, and is capable of adding up to 186 miles (300km) of range to fully-electric cars in fifteen minutes.

The launch is Fastned’s 11th in the UK and its first in London, coming just weeks after Fastned opened the biggest ultra-rapid charging station in Scotland. The new station features a highly visible solar canopy that helps EV drivers to locate the site and stay dry while charging. Reliable and easy-to-use ultra-rapid chargers, as well as a range of payment methods, mean drivers can charge easily and with confidence and get back on the road as quickly as possible.

The new station will play a vital role in providing fast, reliable and accessible charging to London’s growing number of EVs, including private and commercial vehicles. The new station opens as over one in ten new vehicles registered in the UK throughout April were EVs, according to sales figures from New AutoMotive*.

The station helps address the need for more rapid hubs in London, as set out in the Mayor of London’s “2030 EV Infrastructure Strategy” and will support London’s plans to become a net-zero city by 2030.

“We’ve developed significant expertise in providing ultra-rapid charging across Europe and in the North East of England, so we’re excited to bring this experience to the capital. London’s target of hitting net-zero by 2030 is ambitious, and we’re delighted to play a part in supporting the capital as it transitions.”
